Memphis History

The historic images under this tab were taken from the Memphis City Directory Archives which were digitized by Tom Leatherwood Shelby County Registrar.  These directories date from 1859 to 1918.   By today’s standards some of the advertisements from the old city directories would be considered offensive, yet with the modern advertising of various drugs to enhance certain bodily functions, most people accept these modern advertisements with out offense.  Over time I will add other historic items pertaining to Memphis history from http://register.shelby.tn.us/ as well as other sources such as Goodspeeds History of Knox, Hamilton and Shelby Counties.
